Chapter Standing Rules
ARTICLE I NAME
The name of this chapter shall be Beta Kappa of The Tennessee State Organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
ARTICLE II OBJECT
Section A To carry out the seven purposes as designated by The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Section B To provide an environment in which members are able to enhance their roles as educators.
ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP
Section A The membership of Beta Kappa shall be by invitation only and shall be composed of active, reserve, and honorary members from Lincoln and Marshall Counties.
Section B The number of new members shall be determined by the membership committee and the orientation of prospective members shall be the duty of the membership committee.
Section C New initiates will be elected by four-fifths method of voting as spelled out in the handbook.
Section D Initiation:
1. Initiation shall be held at the September meeting.
2. Initiates shall pay an initiation fee of $10.00 (international dues: $2.50; state dues: $2.50; and chapter dues: $5.00).
Section E Termination
Members are terminated by resignation, death, or non-payment of dues by October 31.
Section F Reinstatement
Former members who wish to be reinstated may do so by paying the appropriate dues.
Section G Transfer
1. Only active and reserve members may transfer membership.
2. The chapter must accept the transfer.
3. A member wishing to transfer must apply by completing and mailing to International Headquarters an official application
(Form TR-A).
ARTICLE IV FINANCES
Section A Annual Dues
1. The amount of chapter dues shall be determined by the Finance Committee and approved by the membership.
2. The contribution will be $1.00 from each member to World Fellowship, to regular scholarship, and to special scholarship, plus any assessments deemed necessary by the Finance Committee with the dues in one payment.
3. Dues shall be collected by the chapter treasurer between July1 and October 31.
Section B Financial Control
1. The Finance Committee shall propose a budget to the Executive Committee.
2. All checks shall be signed by the treasurer. The president of the chapter shall be cosigner of the bank account.
3. The treasurer's books shall be audited at the end of the fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) by the Financial Committee.
Section C Designated Stipends
1. The chapter will provide the president's expenses to The Tennessee State Organization Convention, not to exceed the cost of the total package or to include late fees.
2. The chapter will provide financial assistance for the president to attend SE Regional Conference or the DKG Society International Convention. (That amount will be set according to the budget.)
ARTICLE V ORGANIZATION AND MEETINGS
The organization of Beta Kappa Chapter and the number of meetings per year shall be in accordance with the CONSTITUTION and THE TENNESSEE STATE ORGANIZATION BYLAWS.
ARTICLE VI OFFICERS
Section A 1. The officers shall be a president, first vice-president, second vice-president, recording secretary, and corresponding secretary (all elected).
2. The treasurer must be selected by the chapter's executive board. The president may recommend, but she cannot appoint. The Parliamentarian is appointed by the president.
3. One member shall be appointed by the president to prepare the yearbook. The tenure for this office shall be determined by the member serving and the president.
Section B Duties
The duties of all chapter officers are mandated by the CONSTITUTION and THE TENNESSEE STATE BYLAWS.
Section C Term of Office
1. Officers shall serve a term of two years.
2. No officer, except the treasurer, may serve in the same office longer than two terms in succession.
Section D Vacancies
1. When a vacancy occurs in the office of the president, the first vice-president shall become the president.
2. When a vacancy occurs in other elected or appointed positions, the president shall name a successor.
Section E Nominations and Elections
1. The Nominations Committee shall present one nomination for each elective office. Other nominations may be made from the floor.
2. If there is only one nominee for each office, the election shall be by voice vote or show of hands. If there is more than one nominee for each office, the election shall be by ballot vote.
3. Elected Beta Kappa officers shall be alternately from Lincoln and Marshall counties with the president, second vice-president and corresponding secretary from one county, and the first vice-president and recording
secretary from the other county.
ARTICLE VII CHAPTER EXECUTIVE BOARD
Members and duties are mandated by THE TENNESSEE STATE BYLAWS (Article VIII, Section B). The Executive Board consists of the elected officers and the immediate past president as members and the treasurer and parliamentarian as ex-officio members, without vote.

Section B Composition of Committees
1. All chapter committees shall be appointed by the president to serve two years.
2. Committees shall be headed by co-chair-persons one from Marshall County and one from Lincoln County, when the president deems it appropriate for carrying on the business of the chapter more efficiently.

a. Membership
1. Distribute applications for membership.
2. Study applications and make recommendations to members.
3. Conduct the election of members.
4. Plan an orientation of new members.
5. Make arrangements for the initiation ceremony.
6. Keep membership and necrology records updated.
b. Finance
1. Prepare a budget yearly.
2. Set annual chapter dues.
3. Audit treasurer's books annually.
4. President and treasurer ex-officio members of the committee.
c. Nominations
1. Present a nominee for each elected office.
2. Prepare and count ballots, if needed.
d. Communication and Publicity
1. Shall prepare at least four newsletters a year.
2. Shall submit articles to local media and Xi State News.
e. Social Courtesy
1. Work with the first-vice president and Educational Excellence committee to plan the time and place for the meetings and make all necessary arrangements.
2. Serve as a calling committee to inform members and any special needs relating to a member.
3. Collect from members all monies needed to pay for refreshments and/or social amenities for regular chapter meetings.
4. A member is responsible for paying for a scheduled meal if a reservation was made for her and not cancelled at least 5 days prior to the meeting.
5. In the event of the death of a member, $25.00 will be donated to the scholarship fund. In the event of the death a parent, husband, or child of a member, $15.00 will be donated to the scholarship fund. These funds will come from the chapter treasury.
6. All other benevolence to members will be stipulated and funded by each county separately. Lincoln and Marshall county members of the Social Courtesy Committee will handle these funds apart from regular chapter monies.
2. Society Missions and Purpose
a. Educational Excellence
Encourage early career educators.
Provide collected data requested by The Tennessee State Organization.
Assist the first vie-president and social committee in program planning
Promote World Fellowship and International projects.
b. Legislation
Keep members informed of current legislation pertaining to education.
c. State Projects
Support CIEC and literacy and numeracy projects such as high school essay contest and Imagination Library.
d. Scholarship
See that members receive information on available Society scholarships.
Distribute applications for the Beta Kappa Teaching Scholarships and choose a recipient from each county.
e. Technology
Increase technology knowledge of all members.
Help members with ideas incorporating technology into their curricula.
Raise awareness of state and international websites as a resource for members.
Maintain the chapter website.
f. Visual/Performing Arts
Plan music for each meeting.
Provide support for projects for the arts for Xi State.
Section D Committee Reports
When indicated, chairmen of committees shall prepare reports on forms supplied by International Headquarters and submit to the persons designated.
ARTICLE IX PARLIAMENTARY REPORTS
In all cases not provided for in the Delta Kappa Gamma CONSTITUTION, THE TENNESSEE STATE ORGANIZATION BYLAWS, or Chapter Standing Rules,
Robert's Rules of Order (Newly Revised) shall govern.
ARTICLE X AMENDMENTS
These rules may be amended at any business meeting by a 2/3 vote of the members present.

1. A Silent Auction shall be held each November to raise money for scholarship. Prospective members shall be invited.
2. Change collected from members at each meeting shall be added to the scholarship fund
