Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honor society of women educators. Founded in 1929 by twelve women on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, Delta Kappa Gamma has attained major objectives in improving opportunities for qualified women employed at every level of education as well as in advancing the status of women educators.
Presently, the Society is composed of over 3,000 chapters in 77 state organizations in 17 countries. The Tennessee organization is The Tennessee State Organization. The Tennessee State Organization was founded on November 30, 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee by Dr. Annie Webb Blanton.
Beta Kappa Chapter was organized April 24th, 1976 when there was a decision to divide an ever growing Phi Chapter of Pulaski, Lawrence, Marshall, and Lincoln counties of Tennessee by Miss Mary Hall, state founder. Beta Kappa Chapter began by bringing together the counties of Marshall and Lincoln. Mrs. Erline Patrick was chosen as the first president of Beta Kappa Chapter.
Mrs. Patrick is a reserve member of Beta Kappa Chapter and is still interested in the works of DKG.
